Automotive 20 GROUP +

Advanced Shop Leadership is not your normal 20 group.

We started ASL with the good attributes of an automotive twenty group

but made fundamental changes to prevent the groups

from losing their zeal and learning over time.

ASL Team Members

George Kingman

George, founder and leader of ASL, has a wealth of experience and knowledge that continues to grow with every new client! He started his career in our industry as a teenager as a tire tech but left the industry for a period of 17 years where he ran two businesses and worked as a senior analyst responsible for improving operational processes for the largest bank in America. Eventually the smell of rubber lured him back to the industry that captured his heart. He successfully ran stores, districts, and worked within corporate at the largest tire and auto chain in the industry. Like so many others, corporate disengagement lured him to accept a position with the original 20 Group in the industry. After a short time, he was selected to run the organization. However the same corporate shenanigans began taking place. The company changed hands between publishing and investment capital companies that weren’t in it for the passion. This led him to create ASL with one goal in mind, improve the quality of life for the independent tire and automotive service retailer through improved efficient operations, teammate happiness and of course, cash flow and profit growth. In addition to ASL, George also owns a growing chain of tire and auto service stores with three locations in less than three years. Email me directly at [email protected]

Leslie Zimmerman

With her education in Human Resource Management, Leslie’s career started in logistics as a HR Manager. From the full development of handbooks, SOPs, and training manuals, she gained a wealth of hands-on experience that would later prepare her for the automotive industry.

Leslie quickly transitioned into the automotive industry in 2007. She was responsible for accounting, payroll, HR and all administrative/corporate aspects directly affecting their chain of multi-unit automotive retail stores. Leslie developed HR policies, standard operating procedures and put accounting, payroll and other corporate administrative systems in place for their multi-unit chain of automotive stores to run smoothly and successfully. From the setup of a store to the completion of a profitable buyout, she has seen every aspect of a tire retail store. Leslie now provides accounting and bookkeeping services to ASL's clients. Wes Tatum

Wes was born into the family tire and auto business and never looked back. From cleaning the shop, to changing tires, to sales, to management, and eventually ownership: He is very familiar with the challenges of operating as an independent. As a second-generation shop owner and former ASL member, he and his family grew their family business to 6 locations and over 90 teammates. Wes is active in multiple industry organizations and focused on the "next generation" of our industry.  He has 23 years of experience and is well versed in multi-unit retail and commercial operations. "You may be whatever you resolve to be” was Wes’s mantra as a Virginia Military Institute cadet. That resolve is still evident in his passion to help other independent shop owners attain their goals. Richie Zimmerman

Richie Zimmerman

Ever since Richie was a young boy, he has always been around rubber. Third generation, his family started in New Orleans in a small gas station on St Charles Avenue that grew into multi-unit commercial, wholesale and retail locations in Louisiana. He started his career unloading trucks full of tires from Bridgestone/Firestone but quickly transitioned to the purchase of his first retail location in 2007. A former 20 Group alumni, he took his learnings and turned a negative store to a successful multi-unit chain with double digit profitability before realizing his goal of selling to a publicly traded. Since then, his passion has been to help others and seeing them succeed in business, and nobody better understands the challenges of an automotive store owner than someone who has seen it from start to sell!

Lea Rowsey

Lea grew up in her family’s tire and auto repair business and was filing in the office as early as age 7. Lea has a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. During her part-time years in school and 15 full time years working in her family business, she managed accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, human resources, and towing department operations as her family’s business grew from 2 retail stores to 6 retail and commercial locations, plus a commercial warehouse.  Lea grew professionally along with the family business and experienced first hand the many challenges that face independents in both the retail and commercial arenas. She has experienced a state sales tax audit and can offer knowledge and guidance through that grueling process.  Lea’s focus has always been to create systems that help manage an ever-growing workload without adding to payroll.

George has been a driving force behind our growth this year, we went from 5 to 8 stores and we couldn't have done it without ASL!

The managers workshop opened my eyes quite a bit. Was amazing information and it was awesome hearing about other shops as far as pricing, processes, etc. I would definitely recommend and look forward to coming back!
